Traffic bridges Sneek
Sneek is home to two unique structures: timber viaducts with a free span of 32 meters, crossing the motorway A7. Many technical innovations were needed to successfully complete the two landmarking bridges. Starting with their complex form: a lattice of curved and twisted rafters in laminated wood. Added with the fact that such a span had
never before been achieved in timber and combined with a design load in the highest traffic class, these are a first of its kind in timber structures. Furthermore the main beams are pre-stressed and the bridges are the result of the first large scale production of acetylated wood: Accoya. As a result the bridges are the first heavy traffic viaducts in Europe.
