Traffic bridges Sneek

General
Sneek is home to two unique structures: timber viaducts with a free span of 32 meters. Their complex form, the fact that such a span had never before been achieved in timber, and the design load in the highest traffic class, make the design a technical balancing act on a razor’s edge. The viaducts provide the support structure for the road surface with a lattice of curved and twisted rafters in laminated wood. The concept was realized thanks to the fact that all the parties involved viewed apparent impossibilities as problems to be solved.
