General
The new office building for the department of Social Affairs and Employment of the municipality of Groningen features a ‘job market’, offices, a restaurant, courtyard gardens, parking garage, rooftop terrace and bicycle parking facility. Green balconies, rooftop gardens and succulent roofs were integrated into the building, as were solar panels, underground and thermal energy storage, concrete core activation and a grey-water system. Indoor gardens and atria offer a green, nature-filled work environment.
The building boasts large expanses of floor spanning 15 metres in places. The parking garage has a limited number of columns. Both aspects allow for a large degree of freedom in determining how to use the space. In addition, a new HOLCON floor system was chosen; this not only allowed all installations to be integrated into the floor, with easy access from above, but also facilitates flexible use of the building.
