Timber traffic gates
General
Vanuit een stimuleringsprogramma om meer hout in de bouw toe te passen, is een houten verkeersportaal ontworpen. De portalen zijn op een tweetal locaties boven de Nederlandse snelwegen gerealiseerd (A9 bij Alkmaar, A59 bij knooppunt Zonzeel). Het ontwerp bestaat uit een gelamineerde buisligger uit Siberisch Lariks die de vrije overspanning over de rijstroken verzorgt. Recent onderzoek van SHR laat zien dat na 15 jaar de portalen nog altijd onderhoudsvrij zijn, dit in tegenstelling tot de traditionele stalen portalen.
Adviesbureau Lüning verzorgde het constructief ontwerp, de berekening van de houtconstructie en verbindingen. Drie houten wegportalen werden in maart 1999 geplaatst bij knooppunt Zonzeel. In hetzelfde jaar won Adviesbureau Lüning met dit project de Houtinnovatieprijs. Het experiment bij Zonzeel bleek een succes en kort daarna zijn, in november 2002, nog 4 wegportalen geplaatst, op de A9, ter hoogte van Alkmaar.
