In het ontwerp zijn elementen van Amsterdamse School architectuur verwerkt. Het pand dat zich aan de rand van het Stadswandelpark bevindt, werd in samenhang met een gezellenhuis aan de Jonckbloetlaan gebouwd. Dat pand was speciaal voor alleenstaande mannen bestemd en dit voor alleenstaande vrouwen. Tussen de beide panden bevond zich oorspronkelijk een grote gezamenlijke tuin.
