General
The star shaped building of BioSintrum in Oosterwolde in the North of The Netherlands accommodates a public information center about the Biobased-economy. Both offices and educational facilities are inside, as well as a large auditorium. The structure of the building is completely in timber. Of the initial ambition to realize the entire building in biobased material , eventually 80% succeeded. Besides timber, clay hemp-crete, bioplastics and flax insulation is used.

Het Biosintrum in Oosterwolde is een kenniscentrum dat voor meer dan 80% uit biobased materialen bestaat. Daarmee is het een van de meest duurzame en innovatieve gebouwen van Europa. Het dient dé ontmoetingsplek te worden voor onderwijs, bedrijfsleven en overheid op het gebied van de biobased economy. Een kennis- en innovatiecentrum om de Biobased economie te ontwikkelen en nog meer te verankeren in Oosterwolde en omgeving. Het Biosintrum slaat een brug tussen het bedrijfsleven en de onderwijssector, zelfs de bouw en het ontwerp van het gebouw komt in samenwerking met lokale bedrijven en overheidsinstellingen tot stand. Samenwerking en kennisdeling staan centraal in zowel het ontwerp als tijdens het ontwerpproces.

BREEAM outstanding

Het Biosintrum gaat straks voldoen aan de hoogste duurzaamheidseisen (BREEAM Outstanding), met een bijzondere combinatie van voornamelijk biobased materialen en tijdloze architectuur. De niet-alledaagse vorm van het gebouw versterkt de iconische waarde, het ronde hart in het midden nodigt uit tot interactie, samenwerking en kennisdeling.

Oude spijkerbroeken

Voor de isolatie van de binnenwanden van het Biosintrum worden oude spijkerbroeken gebruikt. Daarom is de gemeente Ooststellingwerf gestart met een grote inzamelcampagne
