Houten grachtenhuizen

Canal houses with a wooden look: there are now special houses on the water in the new residential area in Muiden. The site of the former KNSF gunpowder factory on the west side of Muiden is being transformed into a residential area with 1300 homes. In the landscape plan of LA4sale, the existing waterways and green structure have been maintained as much as possible and used to divide the area into sub-areas, each with its own character. M3H has designed two canal houses in the new fortified town.

A special and unique new residential area is being realized on the former gunpowder factory site in Muiden: De Krijgsman Muiden. The Krijgsman Muiden is surrounded by greenery and water, such as the IJmeer and the old Kruitbos. The nature affected by work will be replanted and restored. Here we design a series of archetypal houses, such as canal houses, warehouses, dyke villas and fortified houses. Each house has a recognizable roof shape with characteristic details and is made of natural materials such as wood, steel and brick.

The canal houses consist of several houses. The building on the west side of the Waadse Poldergracht consists of three individual houses that together form triplets. The design is inspired by industrial wooden harbor sheds. The facade is made up of square loose wooden slats that partly also run in front of the windows. The shutters are also covered with these slats and give the facade a completely different appearance when open and closed. From the outside, the shutters provide privacy protection and serve as sun protection. From the inside, the light is filtered and an interesting view is created.

There is a building on the east side of the canal, which we also designed. A double building, two houses under one roof. This facade is also covered with black wooden slats.
